MS4 Series: Adjusting Your Program to New MS4 Requirements

Keep hearing about the 300-ft rule? Is the WOTUS rule still in play? Do I need to update my SWMO? This workshop is designed to walk-through broad and possibly small (and overlooked) changes in the MS4 permit requirements. Considerations and examples will be provided in how changes may affect compliance of MS4 program facilitation.

Utilizing Proper Planning to Prepare Successful Grant Applications

Successful grant writers develop ideas, recognize grant writing as a team effort, conduct proper research and planning efforts prior to submission, and understand the language needed for funding agencies. Learn about how to develop successful grant applications including the following:

  • Proper planning techniques, prior to submission
  • Developing your winning message
  • Obtaining support from officials/consultants
  • Real life concept examples to create priority projects/applications

In this half-day session, you will be introduced to real life examples where these concepts are put to use and developed to create top priority funding applications to help your communities complete vital projects.

Practical Lessons in Winning Public Support for Infrastructure Project

Let's face it - winning public support for unfunded infrastructure mandates is difficult to do. Public officials (both elected and unelected) constantly struggle to communicate the value of infrastructure investments in a way that builds broad-based support from constituents. This session covers the best strategies for planning and successfully engaging the public on difficult-to-win topics like infrastructure investments, tax increases, and municipal compliance activities.

MS4 Permit Program Management: A Perspective Based on USEPA Expectations

Why do I have to develop a map of my regulated MS4? Why do I need to keep an inventory of development and redevelopment projects that discharge stormwater to the MS4? Why do I need to distribute educational materials to target audiences? In simplest terms, these activities are designed to help support an effective Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) that has appropriate goals—but more importantly an appropriate purpose based on the facilitation of a program that reduces the discharge of pollutants from an MS4, protects water quality, and is aligned with three primary water quality requirements of the Clean Water Act. The six Minimum Control Measures (MCMs) in a SWMP are not the SWMP itself, but elements and vehicles to facilitate a SWMP with established goals and objectives. This workshop provides considerations for effective program management based on USEPA expectations and the intent of the Clean Water Act.
